Good information, but not practical for azaleas! Using the pruning method of hedging into a ball is personal preference, but I prefer a more natural selective pruning method. If you run in the winter you will have an evergreen bush with NO BLOOMS or at least very limited blooms the following year.
Azaleas show best results when pruned within 3 weeks after blooms die. This will give the plan time to generate new growth for future blooms, and it can even encourage a second blooming the same year.
