Knowledge is power and it can also feed you and your family. At the Kashmere Multi-Service Center in Houston, dozens turned out to learn how to live healthier and more active lives by successfully growing their own produce. Attendees received face-to-face training on basic gardening skills and best practices. Some of the tips they were given include when to plant, what soil to use, and when to water. The event, held Thursday, May 19, not only taught Houstonians how to grow their own produce gardens, but also the health benefits of fresh produce in their own yards and communities. The latest studies show gardening helps reduce stress and can even improve people’s mood. Learn more about what AARP is doing in Houston at aarp.org/Houston.
