Fruit Tree Pruning Tips for a Permaculture Food Forest "Living Permaculture" Episode 5
Tips, Tricks
Fruit Tree Pruning Tips for a Permaculture Food Forest click here: http://youtu.be/Ik3W1SI_ka4 Pruning fruit trees is one of my favorite chores on the farm. There is something about it that really brings me into a deeper connection with nature. It can seem a little scary at first, but once you get the hang of it there are few farm jobs that are as enjoyable. It is very important to stay on top of pruning, especially in the first years of a newly planted tree. The small amount of time it takes will pay off in a huge way in the future production and management of your trees. Pruning helps to stimulate growth, keep your tree healthy, maintain a small and manageable size and will greatly augment fruit production. This video will offer some basic concepts of tree pruning to get you started and then you can do some more research on specific techniques for the type of tree you are working with. Enjoy!!! I saw that you left lower branches that were growing down in 45 degree angle. I thought you wanted only 45 degree upward growing. Is that rule meant for the main support branches?
BTW, I really enjoyed your video. Your gardens are beautiful. I also appreciate you willingness to share what you've learned over the years.
Have a blessed day. 😆 -

Thanks for the video. Very much appreciated. I'm a stay at home single dad with 2yo twins so I have a kind of low maintenance permaculture 5 acres in Northern New South Wales, Australia. These videos help me improve my garden and get more food production going. I'd love to take the kids to Costa Rica for a visit when they're a bit older.

I was going to go ahead and use the STUN technique or Strategic Total Utter Neglect or the Fukuoka method of not pruning, for the cool climate trees I have planted but then I read in Hemenway's book that he talks about pruning fruit trees and you are doing it too. So, I'm beginning to wonder if I should prune too. I do plenty of chopndrop and natural fertilising and I love doing that, love seeing the impact it has on the soil but, to prune or not to prune, that is the question I need to ponder.
