This is a bit after the fact, but have you tried Jade green beans? Their flavor is outstanding. I used to plant Blue Lake but have moved on. I get seeds in bulk at a local nursery as I haven't seen them elsewhere yet. And thanks for the radish tips!! If mine get hot, I just roast them and it takes that heat away, but I am going to try French Breakfast, and Daikon if I can find them, for late summer planting.

If you add cane molasses at time of fruiting it will continue to feed the microbes and then they will continue feeding the plant so the fruits will be sweeter and more nutrient rich.

We have had 3 days of heavy (literally non-stop) rains here in Sydney Australia, and there were bad floodings - luckily my place wasn't effected by the floods. Some of my seedlings have sprouted though from the rain, bitter-sweet nature lol.

Hi Ray,
Is there any harm in using unfinished compost as a top mulch in my vegetable garden? I would guess my compost is about 2 weeks away from a finish product, but my plants are already in the ground. Your thoughts? Thanks! -
Ray, what part of the country are you in? The way you were talking about rain makes me think you're in Central Texas like I am.

Ray great video again. I completely missed my window for planting radish. I did plant spinach but here in the North East we have had a heat wave and it all bolted. I guess I could see if it is bitter but it just looks lousy. I do have some corn lettuce that survived the hear wave that I can hopefully harvest soon. I did have a question for you. I have been struggling with growing my peppers this year. They are just growing really slow growing. I have them under a grow light 16 hours a day in my basement, I have a heat mat under the tray. The plants are barely 3" tall and the lower leave (not the first leaves) are turning yellow and falling off. There aren't many leave left. I moved some plants to bigger pots tonight but they werent root bound. Any suggestions?

Do try the greens. They are delicious. Stir fry in olive oil and garlic, season it with with garlic salt. Can stir fry the sliced radishes right along with the greens. Ive been growing french breakfast for 4 years but tried German Giant this spring and I think I might like those even better.

a vertical worm farm - how innovative!

I'm so glad you talked about what was happening with your bush beans. It is the same thing that's happening to mine and I couldn't understand what was doing it. Thank you for solving the mystery!

Hi Ray thank for the reply the bean that is cut before or at flowering stage is field beans in the UK and cow peas in Australia. They are grown specifically as green manure, others just fix nitrogen into the soil by root nodules. A bit complicated been studying about it for a while. Another subject, Ray you got me started on growing mushroom and it has amounted to studying about beneficial saprophytic, and mycorrhizal fungi in soil very beneficial to our shrub and fruit trees

How old are you?

rascal is one happily dirty dog

Hey Ray, got a QQ for you. Some of my young tomato plants (all in containers for a little over a week) are pushing flowers already - should I remove them? I have large varieties like Big Beef, Goliath, Giant Belgiums, Rutgers, Boxcar Willie etc. Oh, and I live in Pennsylvania if that matters (growing season length and all).

My son and I love watching Rascal run around while learning about your garden tips! Such a cutie, he should have his own channel :-)
Ray, i need your help! the aphids & ants have taken over my garden and i'm currently at war with them :( i've tried the rubbing alcohol solution you suggested & that does kill the aphids instantly, but as soon as it dries, they are right back on my plants. i can't keep up with it.. i'm trying to get a handle on the ants bc i know they are instigators, but it's getting out of control for me & i need a bigger army on my side. do you have any other suggestions? we are so bummed out, since we've transplanted them in the garden, their growth has been stunted. -
Can anyone tell me if he has a Facebook page ?

Hi Ray beans peas and most of the legume families produce nitrogen fixing root nodules, which does help enrich the soil.

my first plant that I grew were pintos too

Let some spinach go to seed and harvest some seeds.
