I think the Earthbox is overrated for the most part. They are great and they do work, well, but they don't do anything any other container system will, but the thing is, they cost a lot ... altogether with casters, a trellis, dirt and the Earthbox itself is well over $50 ... and that is ridiculous. You can find Earthbox clones now for much less which makes it more worthwhile. Also on the Internet are many different kinds of self-watering containers you can make yourself.

@lapk78 I do remove the old fertilizer strip, but just once a year. I find that I can get good growth for one whole calendar year, even though that may mean 3 different seasonal plantings for me. Each time I plant I do add more soil just to make sure the box is filled. Glad you found the video helpful! I'm planning my 4th season of EarthBox gardening as we speak! -Cindy

When you replant in the following year, do you need to remove any of the old fertilizer strip? Does a new fertilizer strip need to be poured in? Thanks for the good video.
