If using the no till method in a field that has been growing weeds for the past few years should it be brush cut first and then sprayed and planted or just sprayed then planted? Some of the weeds are 5 ft tall but not too thick that you can't walk through it.

It's my first time plotting my own food source where I hunt here just east of the Missouri river in Holts Summit. So do you recommend never tilling before you plant? Whats the benefit of that strategy?

Soil 101- dirt is found under your fingernails, and soil is found under your feet.

I do not plant other crops with soybeans. Soybeans, like most crops, are very sensitive to competition. Rather I wait until the deer have browsed the soybeans heavily allowing adequate sunshine to reach the soil then I broadcast clover, brassicas, wheat, or a mixture into the browsed standing beans and allow that second crop to fill the void.
-
I wish to plant soybeans in my one acre plot this year and wondered if you ever plant any second plant within the same plot (at the same time). My thought would be that when the deer destroy the foilage of the beans, a second slower growing crop can be coming up to fill the void. I wondered about clover??

I plant Eagle Seed forage soybeans at The Proving Grounds. The folks at Eagle Seed have spent literally 40+ years selectively breeding soybeans for forage and pod production. They are unequivocally the forage quality and quantity leader, proven by bunches of university trials. Almost any soybean can grow leaves and pods, but Eagle Seed Beans grow them bigger, faster, and longer.

Grant... are you using GMO (genetically modified organism) seeds? If so are you not worried about the possibility of side effects to the animals and the environment?
