It sounds to me like Home Depot should STOP selling these here in Dallas. I almost bought one.

You prune after they flower but before July 4th!!! Here in the South, I have several dozens of these plants in my yard......They love acid and grow well under a pine tree but, not an oak. They love full sun but, can tolerate partial shade to full shade. It depends on the plant you buy now days....Some are hybrids and are more hardy than the old fashioned ones. You just can't kill these things but, you can stun their flowering ability. If yours isn't flowering well try this or fish emulsion....I bury fish guts and heads around mine- deep enough that the "critters" don't smell it and dig it up......I've gotten yard of the month several times doing this method.....Just go to your county co-op and ask for the specific food this plant needs...done deed. These plants are drought tolerant too. It didn't rain here for 3 months last summer and my plants did fine. The only time you would need to water one of these would be if it was a new planting. Then you would need to water it until it took root..about a season. After that, leave it alone. Fertilize, prune or let grow naturally and enjoy. Also, keep natural mulch around shallow root base....like leaves or pine straw. Don't use wood mulch because it can cause root rot due to an abundance of surface water retention. Hope this helps everyone. This video just isn't correct. Take it from someone who grew up raising Azaleas. They are a staple in every yard here in Mississippi.

Wrong!...never prune till after they bloom...Yolanda!...where did you go to school?...never prune any shrub until after it blooms otherwise you are cutting off the blossoms, now wouldn't that be pretty dumb?

Thank you for your video.Have to tell you we found out using white vinegar really helps the Rhododendron and Azalea plants to get healthy and have more flowers. Was told about a 50% white vinegar and 50% water mix a few times a year works the best. Our plants already are looking much better. This is a very cheap fix.
