First Winter Garden Series #5: How to Grow Basil Indoors
Tips, Tricks
Visit https://calikimgardenandhome.com to get your free growing guide, “Grow 3 Vegetables in 6 Weeks”. In this episode, I show how to take cuttings from an existing basil plant, root it in water, and pot it up so you can grow it indoors when it is too cold to grow it outside. It's quick and simple and you'll love having fresh basil all winter long! Excellent video! I've discovered how theraputic growing a garden can be! It really does lift the spirits! My wife wants a Basil and Cilantro herb garden and i haven't grown since highschool in conservation class. I actually built my own Aeroponics machine for the school that they still use today 15 years later! Can't wait to see these babies pop up!

HOW long do you change the water every day?
-
Great video I am following your instructions its been two weeks and I already have basil steams rooting, now my questions is: once I transfer the basil in the pot how much water does it need on a daily basis or how often should i water it? please help.

I am doing this with success thanks to your last how to propagate basil video - I am glad to see that this works indoors too because I was worried that it would only work if I planted them outside. Thank you for making all these amazing videos! I don't have my own yard yet, but I really want to learn how to garden and eat some things that I grow. Do you have any recommendations for other plants to grow indoors or in a small patio area?

I am trying to keep my Thai basil growing this way. Love that stuff .

Love the video as always! You've motivated me to go out and do this right now before my basil is all gone to seed. Thanks!
-
Thanks for this video! There's nothing like fresh basil! My main problem was whiteflies or aphids before, but I'm going to try again and stay on top of it!
-
Great idea! I do the same with rosemary each year but never really thought to bring in my basil. I think I will do just that. Thanks!

one of the best thing about gardening is looking at those roots come out

We tilled up parts of the garden in August and planted onions and garlic. A week or so later we had lots of tomato and basil sprouts. We are pretty sure these are volunteers from last years' seeds that survived the compost pile. (We put lots of nice compost around the onions). We now have several tomato and basil plants (along with a few cukes, and squash) that we have put in the hoop house. As the temps get closer to freezing, we'll bring them inside or we'll put them in a very small, heated greenhouse inside the hoop house. We hope to have winter produce as well!

Love basil in my kitchen window! I am attempting to do this with mint at the moment....does this method work with mint??
-
oh wow Kim I didn't know u had to change the water daily. I clipped a piece off my umbrella plant that broke off. 3 weeks. Healthy leaves but no roots yet. This is cool, it's literally free plants!

Kim, This is a wondering idea. I never knew you could do such with basil. My garden is coming along and getting ready to release the videos, however you have given me a great idea and I'm going to incorporate it into my garden. Thanks as always.
