Hi...I did enjoy watching your videos, I just started my own veggie garden , I leave in SoCal in the Diamond Bar area and have big yard that would like to transformed into afood producing park. About 2 weeks ago I had 6 truck loads of mulch from local tree pruning people and would like to start doing my compost. Also I have seeds of squash that its not known here that is very popular in Soth America, and its deliciuos. If you would like some would love to send some your way , you will love them. I cant send you pictures of my previous years crops...
I will try the sand around my Kayle see if it works, because its been beat by something, I havent been able to find any of the green caterpelar even though been meticusly looking,,,, if you have any other ideas of what to mix and spray with(that is totally natural) please let me know -

I need to plant zucchini again. The Rollie Pollie and slugs ate all three of my plants! Hope you don't have to battle with any pests in this section.

Great teepee trellis! Still getting frost here, so outdoor plants have to wait. I will post my indoor peppers and tomatoes video tomorrow. I have some in soil, and some in a no power aquaponics setup. Ghost Chile's got planted, but are not up yet. When would you suggest starting eggp!ant?

Hey Kim! I noticed what looks like an Afghan pine tree (needles) in the background. I hope you are composting those suckers! A buddy of mine related his story about our county extension agent encouraging him to use the (fully composted" needles and I could not believe the Tomatoes he was producing, not just vines but HUGE Tomatoes! I was sold! I started adding literally tons of composted pine needles from my pines along with my (normal) copious amounts of grass clippings and leaf mold some pelletized gypsum and my heavy clay soil has miraculously transformed into my "field of dreams". My soil is now dark, rich, crumbly, smells fantastic, has tons of earthworms and has tremendous water carrying capacity which is a real boon in dusty West Texas.I have been able to reduce my drip irrigation cycle to once or twice a week instead of daily.Contrary to popular gardening myth's composted pine needles do not raise soil pH at all! The acidity is in the green needles, not the dry composted ones, they are pH neutral! After many years of this practice my soil pH is 7! Perfect! Just wanted to share my experiences with you and your loyal followers so they wont destroy them like I did for decades! Keep on Growin- David

Aren't you worry that all your cucumber plants will cross pollinate producing bitter fruit. I know from growing cucumber in greenhouse in the UK you can get all female variety of cucumber that produces no male flowers. With cucumber it is very complex as there are varieties that grow inside in greenhouse and those that grow outside. With cucumber grown inside greenhouse you can buy an all female variety or buy an ordinary variety and then remove the male flowers before they pollinate the fruit (as this will be bitter). Outside varieties have to be pollinated and you can see why most people prefer to grow them in greenhouses as it is simpler!
Courgettes are really immature Marrows (but much tastier) and yes you can get cross pollination amongst any plants of the Cucurbitaceae family so you have to be really careful. Don't forget flowers of the courgettes are edible, so you don't need to waste the male flowers as they make a good snack when mixed with batter and fried. Can you buy bamboo cane holders ( see http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wigwam-Garden-Bamboo-Support-Structure/dp/B00BPATG9A) in the USA, where six or more canes can be weaved into a wigwam structures and plants grown up each cane. It is very handy when growing peas or beans (see http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xg93et_how-to-build-a-wigwam-support-for-runner-beans_lifestyle). Hope this helps.
