Fall Vegetables - Red Acre Cabbage
Tips, Tricks
The Red or Purple Cabbage is a delicious, healthy and robust cabbage to grow in your vegetable garden. The red cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata f. rubra) is a kind of cabbage, also known as purple cabbage, red kraut, or blue kraut after preparation. Red cabbage is eaten raw in salads as well as used to prepare coleslaw. Red cabbage has 10 times more vitamin A and twice as much iron as green cabbage

Says that the leaves turn blue when cooked... From experience I can say that the leaves turn into a pale pink (looks like pale rose petals) and the water turns purple.

I always love watching your videos. You are so knowledgeable. I am very surprised the leaves are not eaten. We have so many bugs in VA. What zone are you in?
Cheers!

I haven't grown this variety, but I have grown cone head cabbage. I used a large container and the head was on the smaller side as you mentioned. However, I was pleased with the results. I had no insect or disease issues and the flavor was very nice. It's much less pungent than a white cabbage.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and harvest with us. :) -
Nice video. This has inspired me to want to try growing cabbage next year. I love to eat purple cabbage raw. :)
