Hi there... First thanks so much for your very useful and entertaining videos. Keep'em coming ;) Okay so MY Frankenstein is the shaded part of my yard. I've practically 'lost' 1/2 of my grass the moment we hit fall. As soon as we hit cool evenings and the sun just doesn't hit the shaded side as much as it did in full summer, the ground doesn't seem to dry off and the grass dies! Sooooooooooo...... Help! What to do...what to do.... I enrolled my family into our Fall application (Thank you for all your vids for fall application coming out of dormancy), my lawn plumped right back beautifully. However, despite the shaded side greening up beautifully, its not filling in but rather thinning out since the ground stays wet! I did the whole sh'bang... aerate, milorganite, starter fert, sun/shade mix seed and I added gypsum to help with draining (clay soil ugh!). Your thoughts? I can send before and after pics too of the rest of the yard. Thank you thank you. You and your vids. saved me over 600$ for the treatment I listed above which we did ourselves ;) BTW I felt sooo smart when I suggested to the gentleman behind me to check the date on his bag of seed since most of what I grabbed was expired. He looked at the bag, looked up at me... then confirmed his bag was indeed expired too and thank me for my 'tip'. ;) Sh'zam! Lawn care nut in the making right here! lol

It's October 9th ... Is it too late to seed in Zone 5 ??? When do you put weed control on lawn in Fall ???
-
Great vid. I watched this originally a few weeks ago and followed each step, except I did half the milorganite since I applied starter fertilizer as well (as per some of your earlier vids). Since I have weed issues, I applied tenacity with surfactant. The tenacity seemed to work well at first. Weeds turned light then mostly white. It then rained for a week straight. It seems this rain allowed the weeds to recoup from the tenacity. The crabgrass, clover, and dandelions are the weed that rebounded. I raked up the weeds that did die off and added more seed. I'm curious to see how the tenacity will do in the Spring as a pre-emergent.

Allyn, I want to over-seed my Bermuda lawn in Ga with rye grass.... same thing Augusta National does with their grass. Any tips for me on how to go about doing this correctly?

The key to a great lawn is a deep Root system. Jonathan Green, is the only one that offers the best Lawn seed and Products for the system that you want to be for your lawn and Lawn care.

I have sandy soil in my lawn and get a lot of brown spots that simply do not grow well. Just starting my lawn care program as I just bought a new home. But the lawn blows just wondering if I should start a lawn care program now or in the spring. Also is there much I can do with sandy soil. A lot of dead looking grass within the green grass. Will be aerating in the spring hopefully helps

OK you sold me on the Milorganite. My question is how long will my lawn smell like a homeless man's shoe? Man this stuff stinks.

Word to the wise. It makes sense to de-thatch. I am rehabbing my front lawn (small, 800 sqFT) and I thatched out THREE 30 gallon lawn bags full of thatch.

Great videos ! Had a question for you... Current have Bermuda grass and was thinking of throwing down perennial ryegrass for the fall. Should I scalp my Bermuda or is there a certain height I should adjust my lawn mower? Let me know you opinion . (Located in Cali)
Thanks! -
Hey Allyn, I'm really glad I found your channel. I've had your videos playing on one of my monitors at work for the past two weeks non-stop.
I live at the top of Virginia which is part of the transition zone. I just moved in in May so I haven't had time to really do too much to my lawn yet. My lawn is extremely compacted and is clay time soil. I would say about 60% of my "lawn" is weeds. I know fall is the best time for fertilizing. But what should be my plan of attack and in what order this fall and next spring?
thanks a lot! -
Thanks, this is great and the personal side is cool too. In the same age group and I have found lately what is a "mid life crisis". This is a positive post... It really isn't a "crisis", it is just us guys who are now able to do things and buy things that we couldn't has a child or we never privy to as a child or teen growing up. Since we never got to do them then it appears as "childish" since we supposed to do them as a child. Of course, there is a limit before the comments start flying over but if you explain it this way I believe people will see differently and understand AND even agree. (@wives)

How soon after germination of tall fescue can I spray tenacity? I sprayed it as a pre M on another part of the lawn, but didn't on another. I have a bunch of sprouts of a weed that has a large seed. The sprouts are lime green and look like a KBG blade of grass. Tenacity says wait 4 weeks from germination, but others say you can spray it immediately. Thoughts?

Dominating your neighbors lawn is one thing, but sticking your viewers faces in your crotch is taking it to a whole nother level (3:19). I'm really not comfortable from my position between your legs.

Send me one too!

Hey allyn, should I still do aeration if my lawn is NEW? I started a brand new lawn this year in spring (it's looking great).

I'm pumped to start my fall lawn recovery program next weekend! And then follow up in the spring with transitioning to your hybrid organic lawn care program. Love watching your videos and every time I watch them I just want to go work on my lawn haha. Keep up the great work! #LCN
