Various set up shots Douglas McKenzie, Health and Fitness Manager, London Borough of Newham 25. SOUNDBITE (English) Douglas McKenzie, Health and Fitness Manager, London Borough of Newham: "If you don't prepare properly, if you don't warm up properly before exercise the consequences would lead immediately into an injury. We would also have the joints themselves, you would pull the joint, the tendons, the muscles themselver would actually be torn. They wouldn't be as elastic, so we wouldn't get the same performance as expected from a proper warm up." 26. Mid shot shovelling wood shavings 27. Wide shot Green Gym member pushing wheelbarrow out of shot LEADIN Green Gyms are schemes that combine conservation work with fitness and exercise. They are becoming increasingly popular in the UK with hundreds of groups around the country attracting volunteers of all ages. Participants start with warm up exercises led by a trainer and then together they take on the job of clearing up and conserving a local public space. STORYLINE A grubby wasteground by the A13 motorway in east London may be an unusual location for a fitness workout, but that's what's happening here at the Green Gym. A dozen or so local volunteers meet twice a week to improve their fitness and help improve a local conservation site. Michael Wilson is the Green Gym leader in the London Borough of Newham.
