I planted a couple spearmint plants a few years ago and now I have plants every where, hard to get rid of unless you plant it in a container. I also have pineapple mint, both are very evasive.

Can I grow mint by using stems without any mint leaves on it?
-
What mint is this? Spearmint or peppermint?
-
when i was in the military as a medic- we were practicing outside learning how to fly away w ppl in gurneys w blackhawk… the whole thing was quite something…anyways, as i found a shortcut back from the grassy areas thru the leaves behind this old wall, i smelled mint and turned around to find about 3x5 cubic yards of it to my utmost amazement! so cool how this grows massively like you stated. to think i was buying this at the store in packages for several dollars...

Will this work the same with spearmint as well?

Man. everyone say put in water and leave it. I tried 10 times and always the mint died. What are u not telling us?

Mint, spearmint etc-they all love hot weather, and they are very very cold hardy,I have so much mint just everywhere-it is my very favorite coldweather plant stays green, happy and healthy even when pinebranches are breakkingfrom adeep freeze here in WAState .My fave go to herb along with thyme. The worse the dirt the more they thrive!

Just place your mint in the ground-try mixing a bit of sand in the soil, they do notneed good soil and wet roots can kill them-lightly mist the soil and water well maybe once per month- all you need to do is take the first few leaves of the bottom of your mint start, that part will root-my main mint is over 50 yrs old, from my gran-keep misting and leave it,even if the top appears 'dead' it will take. You can stick a start almost entirely down into the soil-have patience you will have mint

i'll try it... thanks

Thank you a wonderful idea Eric so the clear plastic cover can protect the mint from the cold. I live in New York and we don't have many light sunny days in the winter.

Fortunately, it's fairly cheap to replace. If you grown in a contianer, maybe you could try a plastic cover, like a mini greenhouse over the top. Or move it to a sunny window for the winter. It's nice to atleast pick some fresh mint in the winter, when everything else has died off or gone dormant.

Mint is a wonderful thing to get rid of mouse problems. I had trying everything even a cat but only mint helped. They hate mint. However in my apartment the plants don't spreed and they died very fast because of the cold winter.
