I would cut a lot back. Leave one or two main stems on each plant which will be easier to take them apart and string them up. If you leave them on the ground you may just have a bunch of rotting tomatoes that you can't even get to. Good luck. I've had plants topple over in the past, not fun!

I should have done this initially - my support system crashed down while I was on vacation, and the tomato plants have all intertwined and grown in together. Question: Should I try and disentangle them, or can I just cut them back and re-tie them using this method? Bugs have taken over as well, so it wouldn't be a huge loss to cut them. What do you recommend? Cut, or painstakingly disentangle, or leave the whole mess? Thanks for the tips.
