Dave's Allotment Tips. Controlling Mare's Tail And Planting Tomatoes Using Ring Culture.
Tips, Tricks
The weather has changed back to winter climate these past 2 days. Rain and cold temperatures are still a shock, even though we should all know by now, 'Never cast a clowt, till May is out.. However, I'm glad I hadn't planted out my Oca and Giant Pumpkin yet.. Rain has stopped me from planting out today, so I thought i would share a little tip on how to control Mare's Tail and Bindweed, and show you how I plant my Tomatoes, using the Ring Culture method. Thanks for watching, and lets hope for some better weather soon.. Stay tuned for the next update, which will be a Bank Holiday Special, and also stay tuned for the latest sigalong, which should be done within the next fortnight..:) Oh, and if you want to watch Paula giving me some ink, here is the link.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiSyh6on8j0 Comment, Like and Please Subscribe and Share..:) Cheers, Dave.

Dave, that is ok in very good soil, and only two bits of mare's tail. MT has very brittle roots, and they are almost black in colour, so when you try to remove them in heavier soil, they always leave a bit of root. They are impossible to take out by this method - Ive tried. If they are in amongst paving slabs as well its even harder. Roundup DOES work - Ive sprayed the foliage 2 or three times to make sure and it works. Also, have a look at Lat's allotment on Mare's tails https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-_GGeH2Z64 - he uses vinegar and washing up liquid - I dont know whether it comes back though. but if you keep hitting it, it has to eventually die

Interesting way to plant tomatoes.
You can put up one of those fake wasps nests... they stay away. Really works. -
Roundup And washing up liquid works, The washing up brakes the waxy coating down and the roundup takes care of the rest lol

great update as usual Dave !! can't wait for the sing a long video to be ready !! thanks for sharing !! all the best and happy gardening !!

Hey Dave. If you nip the bottom 1/4 leaves off of your tomato stem before planting and then plant deep, they will grow more roots. Cheers.

dave you know when you have got the whole bind weed root if theres a little hook at the end..,i had to dig down 3 foot to get all my bind weed out, but missed the odd one, so wot i did i put some rock salt in a bottle with water then put the bind weed into it, after a few days its dead and right down to the root,

Did you know that the QUO were gardeners.

Great video, Dave Glad yo didn't put out your veg yet. Crazy weather.
I have that bind weed and also morning glories that are all over and they strangle everything. -
I can't get over how much rain you get, it's surprising that you can grow anything other than moss and frogs ;-) I also notice you don't cut the lower leaves off the tomato plant and plant it deeper for better roots but, I guess with that much rain it's not needed, although I might slip a bigger pot over the top and fill it with more compost after trimming the lower leaves. ?

a little humor about the humus! love your videos Dave, can't wait till Monday.
-
You know, Dave, you were supposed to do that " bum in the soil test " video. While you're down there, why not test your dexterity by pulling the mare's tale at the same time? Double doody, er , I mean duty.

Don't cast a clout. Lol

I'm so sick of the rain.
