When the best time of the year/season to propagate clematis? My vine has finished blooming and we are going into the fall.

Respectfully, I think this is not the best way to root the Clematis cuttings. 1of 5 is small percentage. I think that weak branch with one leaf on top doesn`t have enough strenght to heal the bottom wound. I think it is better to put the cuttings upside - with just a small wound down in sterilized perlite-sand mixture. It must be covered and with more than 90% humidity inside. Percentage must be 5 of 7. Sorry my English is not the best :)

Hi Scarlett! That was some very useful information. Can you make cuttings on things like wild plum or chokecherry trees and propagate new plants? BTW: I read down on you bio a little and I see that you had health issues that you are trying to reverse. I retired in January of 2006 for the same reason. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and also Type 2 Diabetes. I have been slowly reversing the effects of both but it is long process. I am sure that you have some good incite into this, as well. Thanks for posting and have a great day!

Should we be concerned about a top & bottom of the cutting when we put it into the propagating tray?

You said, "wounding is very important because it helps produce growth." There is some life truth in that :-). I've never tried propagating clematis. I don't know about your area, but it's a pricey plant here. Thanks so much for the clear and useful information!
