I'm growing watermelon and cantaloupe for the first time, I was wondering if you had any advice on how to save my cantaloupe plant. The plant wilted and I saw it had come up from the base of the plant in the raised bed, so should I put the plant in water or plant the stem deeper in the ground since it has a few roots on it already and how can I tell when melons have been pollinated , I had two melons on the vine when this happen please help thank you

This may seem like a simple question, but I'd like to hear everyone here there method of gauging when a plant needs to be watered. Thanks!

Watermellons are to heavy to grow on a trellis....But you will soon find that out....

Just curious I have my watermelons growing vertically as well. But I am not sure what type of material to use to support my watermelons once they start producing. What are you plans when the watermelon start getting bigger.

Sweet Kim! The cattle panel trellis is looking great! Thanks for sharing...

The cattle panels also make a great triangle shaped tomato cage IF you have a way to cut them. Wire them together when in use, and after the season undo 1 wire and fold them up and they don't take a lot of room. Super strong and last forever.

Thanks for the progress report Kim. Most of my melons are doing great. I have three Minnesota Midget Cantaloupes on the vine and I am seeing my first watermelon.

Looks great and thanks for the tip on the leaves, I noticed that on my cucumber.

I'm 10 and I am growing watermelons vertically also with my dad!

Hi, I'm growing watermelons for the first time and decided not to plant them on my fence or a trellis. Also, I'm not good at mating the flowers which is why my pumpkins (which I had trained on the fence) didn't do well at all. Put the seeds in last week and I'm hoping this one doesn't need any assistance besides the usual compost and water. Will share photos... I live in the tropics (India) so cold weather is not an issue and the monsoon season right now is perfect for growing, except for the winter crops which get sown at the end of this season.

Hello... when i was a kid. In my grandfather's garden. We actually put composted manure in the hole, little soil, then watermelon seed and toped off with soil. Planted in corn rows for trellis. They were the sugar babies. Every year they turned out amazing .
Thanks for upddate (0; -
LOVE the trellis! I am trying my hand at vertical tomatoes for the first time this year, I wish I had been brave enough to do my watermelons vertical too. Next year I will be better prepared thanks to your videos.

Hi, Kim!
I found your videos very recently and I love them! Thank you for sharing so much valuable information.
I have a personal question, I hope you don't mind, how old are you? -
Hi Kim, Your melons look FAB! Are you expecting them to grow up and over to the other side? Are you going to support the melons once they start getting bigger? How far apart did you plant them? Are the beans you planted bush style?

Nether of my watermelon plants are vertical. But the Sugar Baby is recovered from the attack that almost destroyed it and growing well. The Moon and Stars plant is now starting to grow as well. The housemates wanted little refrigerator watermelons, hence the Sugar Baby. I've wanted to try my hand with the Moon and Stars variety since I first read about it, and the movement to preserve heirloom variety vegetables many years ago in Reader's Digest. That article is also why I'm working mainly with heirloom varieties. Since I'm going to garden I would like to be part of keeping those old varieties going as much as possible. That will include the flowers as I get into them as well over time.

Your watermelons have started of well. I have also seen people do this with pumpkin. It is a great way to save space.

Love it, cant wait to see it. I hope mine make it. That darn powdery mildew is just a bad thing isn't it! Love the cattle panel trellis though Kim.
