The African Queen agapanthus plant, Agapanthus africanus, is marketed as a new improved hybrid landscaping specimen that thrives in beds of rich soil planted along walkways in full sunshine in zones 9 and 10. This plant is multiplied by dividing the rhizomes in early spring or in early fall, after the primary flowering period has finished that continued for 4 months. Frequent watering will favor abundant formation of flower stalks that can reach 4 ft. in height in well drained soils. These lilies were filmed at the Cloister Hotel at Sea Island, Georgia. Agapanthus lilies are fairly cold tolerant for growing out of doors in Florida, Louisiana and Southern Texas, and the Agapahthus plant is very salt water tolerant.
