Betty's Quick Tip 86--Growing Garlic Shoots in Your Kitchen--NO RECIPE--
Tips, Tricks
Betty demonstrates how you can grow garlic shoots in your own kitchen. This is a great project to do with children, because the shoots grow very quickly. Also, when the shoots are tall enough, you can cut them off and snip them over food like baked potatoes for a great mild garlic flavor. If you never have frost or temperatures below about 35 degrees, you may plant any vegetable or herb at any time you like. Just keep them watered faithfully. --Betty :)

I'm so confused with urban gardening videos. I live in sunny California with a mild temp all year round, so I never know what to plant and when or websites to figure it out. Any suggestions?

does it grow more garlic cloves?
-
I don't think planting boys helps them to grow. I'd stick with the garlic bulbs :)

Great tip! I am getting ready to make a video on planting garlic (if you missed the planting season this year) the process is very similar except once it sprouts you harden it off out side and let it go dormant over winter. They are very similar to tulips and other spring bulbs that you plant in the fall. Another great video!

Terrific idea!

that is such an awesome idea, I never thought of that... I do have a question, with the coffee mug there is no drainage, do you want the soil very moist at all times or more dry, or very moist at first and water when the soil dries? Would that also be something to let grow over the winter and then put in the ground in the spring? I have never done garlic so I really don't know, I really like this idea, thanks so much for the video.
