Beginner gardener here. First of all, thanks for all the helpful videos. But I have a question that is probably very elementary to most of you, still I must ask...what do you use for lighting in your grow room?

hello man
ok i faced this problem with everything i plant, moisture brings all kinds of bugs and insects to my garden. where can i find such predator bugs for my soil?
and also i notice some sort of eggs on tree's s leaves, tiny insects. ants come climbing the trees to eat those eggs or something, i dont know. is what they do the same as your little predators? -
Hi Ray i"m watching almost all your videos and thumbs up, your such an amazing gardener , cants stop watching it ,so encouraging , thanks for sharing it with us :)

Why don't you just make holes at the bottom?I try this year air pruning method when you make many holes so the root anyway gets to the air and doesn't go round which inforces the plant to produce new roots

Ray,
Not sure if anyone else asked this in the comments, but what did you do with that "contaminated" soil? For lack of a better word. You said you went to such lengths as to actually wash the roots off. So, I would assume you didn't reuse the soil anywhere else.
Is there a way to "cleanse" it or rejuvenate it or whatever? Did you just toss it off to the side?

Also, thanks for the bit about the mites. I noticed them in my worm farm, and now I know not to be worried about them. -
Yes Ray those little plastic cups are great. I was using those little 2in flower pots but they cost a fortune. One day we were in the dollar store and the wife says, honey why can't you use these for flower pots. The little cups. Wow they are about 200 for a $1. I even use them to pot off my strawberry runners for making a new bed. God Bless

Starting a winter vegetable garden in the basement. Question about watering. I have some carnivorous plants that you only give rain or distilled water. With that aside, as far as the garden goes, is local tap water or melted snow ok to use or should I buy distilled water? I live in the city and they add all the usual chemicals to our water.

Hi Ray! Thank you for your reply but it is not what I was talking about. Root pruning is done naturally when you use a container where the roots can breath. They have demonstrated that the roots are far bigger and healthier than when using hard containers or pots.
-
I am so sorry I forgot something else, root pruning...what do you know about that?
-
One more thing. Have ever heard of smarth pot...you know you can make them yourself of you can buy Wal-Mart shopping bag for .50 cents a bag?
-
Ray, you have to try newspaper containers that you can make them yourself up in a jiffy, it cost you nothing and you do not have to water because you put them on a plate with water, et voila self watering till you ready to transplant and all you have to do is plant with the paper pot and that is it.

This was a fun episode!!! I imagine that Shirazi tobacco plant taking up a permanent position in my kitchen under its own private grow light. I consider the fantastic possibility that it may rid my kitchen of fruit flies. Everything I bring home from my supermarket seems to be pre-inoculated with fruit flies and I consider if perhaps I need a new market....
Okay so yup I'm sure lots of people have fruit fly remedies. I've tried a few. My own remedy is to turn on my vacuum a few feet away and approach the area where they are obviously living with the wand attachment and suck in at least a whole swarm of them. 80 to 90% of them get sucked in and it helps a lot. Oh um make sure you empty the cylinder right away OUTSIDE, before some kind family member tries to "help" you out and mistakenly releases your fruit fly farm back into the kitchen....lol. Ray do you get fruit fly problems? Also is it legal to grow a tobacco plant??? It's something I simply never even considered! I really like how you show us some very interesting and odd plants often things I've never heard of or seen. I think that's really cool and interesting. I am so glad I found you. I plan on incorporating many many of your ideas to help my garden be a success and I love it that you are a Northern gardener in zone 5 like me. Finally I have some solid answers where growing anything outdoors is a little more challenging because of our short season. Thank you so much! And thanks for taking the time to answer us all! What a monumental task and you are always so helpful and kind. I am really enjoying all of this. Thanks so much! -
Just had to order some Box Car Willie tomato seeds right away. I hope they can grow here in Denmark.
