Hello Pondguru. I'm having problems with Black Algae on the plants in my 2ft aquarium. My aquarium is an Interpet 64l bow-fronted aquarium but I have 2 daylight bulbs instead of the 1 x daylight and 1 x cool blue moon light that was included. I'm using Seachem Flourish Excel daily (1 capful) which was recommended to get rid of it but it's not going at all. I have an Elite Stingray 15 filter and just a regular heater which came with my aquaruim. I'm getting very frustrated. Please help???

I have heard some disturbing accounts of filth on the bottom of the gravel bed in old tanks and harming the fish. I like the idea of a panted tank, but am nervous about not being able to vacuum the gravel bed. If one has a planted tank would it eventually become necessary to strip down the tank or could the plants make it possible to avoid "old tank syndrome".

I'm thinking of starting a tropical tank with plants. The local shops are trying to sell me CO2 tanks in their kits, you make no mention of this as far as I can see, are they necessary?

You've covered quite a few issues and made some really nice working gadgets. How about combining your extensive knowledge into feeding your family both a protein source and veggie/fruit source? Here I am talking about aquaponics. But not just any ol' aquaponics but aquaponics on a shoestring. Although, as expensive as Biohome is initially I think that would be great to stick with that for the media unless you would plan on using foam with 3 to 4 inch plant cups. Pick your fish. Say you wanted Tilapia but also wanted prawns. Well, prawns don't put out much waste BUT between a tank of prawns and a tank of Tilapia and having the water merge for watering the plants and media I would think that would work. These two protein sources are also needing warmer water than say trout and crayfish. Crays can deal with the same temp water as trout. I don't know much on the subject but I desperately want to do this. Why? I live on 829$ a month, that's why. Another reason is if the SHTF I have a consistently fresh food source year round. And so would anyone else who was smart enough to want to get their family away from chemicals in their food and to also ensure there IS food in case a disaster arises. Everything I have read is actually confusing or on top of being confusing they also hard sell aquaponic set ups which are unbelievably expensive. I'd really like to see you step up to this. It could help soooo many people eat healthy and, perhaps, survive.
