Aloe Vera
Tips, Tricks
We're growing ALOE VERA in our backyard. Which most of the year it loves our climate...but during the winter months...we tuck it under the porch...to protect it from the snow and freeze. It still gets the southern sun..and we eventually will hang a clear plastic sheet in front of the opening to create a mini greenhouse. GROW YOUR OWN ALOE! We use it externally for cuts, burns, bites and slivers...and internally in our elixirs. POWERFUL PLANT! There are many varieties...so enjoy them all...but we're mostly growing ALOE BARBADENSIS and ALOE CHINENSIS A few growing tips: Make a fast draining soil mix..like 50 percent sand or perlite and 50 percent garden soil. Also..don't over water..it's like's to almost dry out. I've noticed they also like to be shaded most of the day. For fertilizer....(learned this one from David Wolfe's Superfood's book)...use dead sea salt....mix some in water every couple months and water the plants..or dig a little hole next to the plant and pour a small amount of dead sea salt in the hole and cover. You can also use ocean grown, ocean water dilution. HAPPY GROWING!! http://www.rawutah.com/

I recently learned how to use Aloe Vera, and I must say they're absolutely great for my health. I have enjoyed them so much in my smoothie that I have begun to plant more than twenty plus more plants in my backyard, in addition to the ten pots of fully grown aloes i already have.

@ijustshtmypants You're welcome!! MMMMM...goji and aloe...the perfect mix...and garden friends. Cheers!!! Oh...and what a great book...it's on in my constant read section of my book shelf!!!! SO MUCH INFO in that little book!!

@claychick yeah it sounds like you're watering it too much. Another clue is that it will probably be a lot paler than a healthy deep green specimen.
-
@claychick it could also mean that you are giving your aloe vera too much sun.
-
@rawutah Thanks

@gottschlichmatthew This time of year they grow quite a bit, couple inches a week. But all this depends on location, watering etc... Just moved a bunch of my aloe to the east side of the house, so they get sun until noon, then they're shaded. They love this!! They're growing faster with this exposure....just gotta tinker with em and their location, till you find their sweet spot!!
-
How fast do they grow?
-
@claychick HI!! Sorry just noticed I forgot to respond to this...how's the soil mix? Fast draining enough...do you let her dry out before watering...they love that...they can almost COMPLETELY dry out before a DEEP watering again...and they LOVE rock dust!!
-
@leftyla I didn't use regular potting mix...but if you do...use a fast draining cacti/succulent mix. I made my own mix using fast draining components, like perlite....they don't like a lot of moisture to stay in the soil!! Happy Aloe Growing!!
-
Hi there, what type of soil did you use to plant the aloe veras? Regular potting mix okay?
-
dily44..thank YOU..for the kind comment!! Yes, they're so resilient...I love these little plants. Yours sound like they're already thriving!! That's a LONG journey..from Italy to the UK...WOW.. congrats on that! Long trip for a succulent. Just getting ready to pull these plants out from under the patio....they're ready to stretch out after the long winter.

wow, your aloe plants look amazing. i Bought one in Italy last year. On my journey back to the UK it got thrashed about quite a bit and some of the leaves got bruised and cut. i repotted it and amazingly it is thriving. I can't wait for mine to look as good as yours :) Many thanks for you video.
