Aloe Vera - Repotting and Care
Tips, Tricks
I was given an Aloe vera from a friend at work so i thought i would take you along with me as I potted it up. These plants require high light and well draining soil... water them well and then let them dry before you water it again... I have this small aloe plant for years now. The leaves over the years on the bottle of the plant has been falling off so now I have this huge trunk looking thing which doesn't look good. Anyway I can fix it? If I bury that trunk part would it rot my plant?

I bought a small aloe Vera a year ago and it has since gotten a brown tinge to its outer leaves and they've thinned out. I don't know if I'm watering it too much or not enough. It hasn't grown at all and even though I recently repotted it, thinking the lack of space was the problem, I've seen no improvements. Do you have any idea what my problem might be and how I an get it out of its stunted state?

About the watering: I was reading this constantly that you should water your aloe vera plant only once or twice a week. Mine almost died from this and after i started to water it once per DAY, she grew immensely and is after 3 months a incredibly strong plant with very healthy and juicy leaves and perfect root system. The juicy leaves don't come from nothing.
I also used a common (sterilized) earth mix without sand.
I am living in Brazil where it is (almost) always summer, but I let my plant NEVER dry out, what is not recommended by experts but saved my plant and makes her stronger every day. -
The one thing about Aloe is it's leaves don't like being wet. it's better to prop them up with a layer of pebble rocks and small base stones. plus the rocks reflect the heat and keeps the soil moist longer. always make sure the pot is a very well-meaning pot so as to never let the plant even remotely sit in sludge soil. over watering rots the roots and kills it.

they purify the air as well, so good plants to have!
Also, the Aloe vera, which got awsome, medicinal qualties, is the one called Aloe barbadensis miller!
- som aloes can be pure poison, so do use your head! -
You can make a shake, lemonade or put it in a salad. Don't consume too much tho because it's very medicinal.

Just a note: If anyone is eating it, they should be using organic, natural soil!
