Allotment Diary : How to grow Chillies easily : This years Chilli Plants
Tips, Tricks
Just a quick video about how I grow Chillies. I'm by no means an expert but I did have a really good crop this year and this is how I did it. Treating them mean when starting to flower and then feeding them well once the chillies had set, plus growing them in pretty rubbish open structured compost seems to be the key. I prefer the more ornamental types like prarie fire but Joes Jong was a bit of a freak plant with huge chillies. I think the prarie fire are about 50000 ,the Joes Long 15000 and the Habanaro 250000 on the scoville scale of chilli heat. I've found that the soil (heavy clay retaining moisture) we have in south wales is chillies worst enemy but I have also found that the chillies grow much better in really poor compost that can drain easily ,so normally I use coconut coir and grow them in pots on a window.

Nice plants. Sow the super hots in early Jan and also top them early to promote growth early - loads of light and they will thrive, as you said shit soil is fine.
I'm growing some Joe's F1 this year after seeing yours. -
good vid.. got 4 chilli plants now, a hot bannana, a cayenne, a hot lemon, and red scorpion.. all are growing great.. and getting lots of buds on.. is it neccerey to feed them when they are budding?? and why?

Amazing video, I have brought some seeds I have a few questions, do you think it would be okay to plant some now? Also how should I keep the seeds?

Nice video. My problem is not germinating but getting the chillies big enough to start pruning. Most somehow die off after the first two leaves are out. I put the soil into plastic bags, put seeds in, they always all germinate but then they dont develop any further. Maybe its too warm...here its 35degC and 45 in the sun.

beautiful plant, i can't get my chilli to grow. every flower will drop. help me.

Good work lad. Impressive. At what point do you harvest them? I always tended to just pick them as needed and they would flower up again.

"I'm sure you've grown loads better chillies..."
Are you kidding?! Your plants look fantastic! -
Hi. I liked your video, especially as you are in Yorkshire like me. I have just bought 2 chilli plants. (Novice) One is the prairie fire like yours and the other is an apache. What size pots do you have yours in please, and at what stage did you put them into that size pot. Do you feed and water them every day.

Loads of respect to you sir. One of the best if not the best videos about growing home.

Spot on advice mate, thanx 4 the video. Yor bang on about the compost, I lost 2 batches of chillies with the Innes mix, way too rich. The cheap compost works perfectly, and yea, be mean with the water. Cheers.

Hiya m8, great video. Quick question, my seedlings seem to be reaching up with their leaves. Any idea why they are doing this?
