Antique Philippines located in the region of Western Visayas. The province's capital, San Jose, A Piggery is born, Game changer, We are setting out to not only change the way pigs are raised for market but to also revolutionize the impact that a commercial piggery has on an entire agricultural community, We are looking to use local natural and organic byproducts and indigenous plants as a fermented organic feed to produce a High quality pork that is healthy for human consumption, To educate and guide small agricultural communities on how a piggery can become a Nucleus to the farming activities they practice. Finding income in what used to be considered waste such as rice straw. rice bran, and banana byproducts like the banana stalk and leaves from spent banana trees, or considered weeds or nuisance plants such as duckweed, watercress and water hyacinth (lily pads) and sweet potato vine and turn this into extra income to support a local piggery with natural indigenous foods that previously had no or little value to the farmer bringing them added income. To give the farmer opportunity to grow in the off season a second crop and not just rice that is all to common in many areas of the Philippines where Mono cropping is very common, growing the same crop on the same soil year after year as the only option to them, creating unhealthy soil, resistant plant diseases, poor crop yields, and creating a glut of rice on the market due to everyone harvesting at the same times in such quantities as to drive the market price down and disabling the farmer to make a profit for his crop, Moving away from high cost Commercially produced feeds that are prohibitive to a profitable business and also that are laden with chemicals and antibiotics and also unknown sources of protein and fillers that are most likely from sources that also use poisons and medicines to keep them alive long enough to make it to market and the waste from them are then made into animal feed and passed on down the food chain to animals and humans alike, How it Works , Our philosophy is to follow the circle of nature, #1 The first thing that we will recognize is that in nature there is no waste, what is garbage to one is food to another, #2 The second thing is that we will need to recognizes is that in nature there are checks and balances. In nature when something is out of balance Nature has a way of correcting itself, #3 Disease is a byproduct of something being out of balance, The secret to Good Farming practices is keeping everything in balance and in tune with the natural order of the food web and the ways nature has intended them to be, By doing so there will be harmony. We have discovered ways to not only lower the cost of feeds but also a more healthy and natural way of raising our animals, The secret lies in the fermented feed and the way the pig house is constructed that both contribute to a healthy happy pig. The Pig house.. We use a method known as deep litter flooring, Our floors are NOT constructed of concrete, They are made of 1 meter deep rice straw and rice hull, a worthless byproduct of rice production that in the future will bring additional income to farmers, and a few other things such as small amounts of soil, charcoal and high concentrations of good and beneficial natural indigenous bacteria known as Lactobacillus, this combination leads to an odorless, fly free pig pen, that NEVER needs to be cleaned as the bacteria makes fast work turning waste into compost, Is dry and not a mud pit that is festering with pig waste and disease waiting like a bomb to go off, We also employ an 'open pen' arrangement for the pigs rather than a stall arrangement and let our pigs roam around the pen and root and practice natural activities to keep the stress levels down and social interaction take place. The Feed, The driving force in our technique. Known as Probiotics = The promotion of beneficial bacteria that will eliminate the bad bacteria
