About the Garden: Delicata squash in zone 7 (square foot garden)
Tips, Tricks
Zone 7: Average last frost is April 15, first frost October 15 I planted the delicata squash in this 4 x 4 bed on April 19. In this bed, there is also; - 2 thyme plants - oregano plant I bought the delicata seeds from seedsnow.com This video was filmed on July 5. Plants are almost 3 months old TIMELINE April 19 - planted seeds May 5 - plants broke through soil June 7 - plants had major growth spurt June 13 - noticed first flower June 20 - noticed small squash starting to grow July 5 - day of video. Nothing harvested yet Those index cards are 3 x 5 inch Things I've learned about delicata squash (trust but verify): Pick a location that is sunny. This bed gets good sun for most of the day. I put two plants next to each other. I didn't thin down to 1 because I wasn't sure either plant was going to make it (I wanted a backup. Then they both grew so well I didn't want to kill either of them)

I would expect you would grow them on a vertical frame next time.
I tried my first Delicata Squash roasted in the oven yesterday. It's a must try, so good.
I'm going to grow it in my SFG next year, for sure... -
I grew delicata this year in a 4x12 plot. The vines grew the length of the bed, and then some. Three plants in a 4x12 is as far as I'd go. You're lucky to get two fruit on a vine, so it's not a good Square Foot crop.
