You find it in many homes & gardens & it also goes by many other names as well – Aloe barbadensis, First Aid Plant, True Aloe, African Aloe, Burn Plant and Miracle Plant, to mention a few. My Aloe veras grow in pots year round outdoors & I hardly do a thing to them in terms of care. They also make fine houseplants (so fine that it’s included in my houseplant care book - see the link below) & are particularly handy to have growing in the kitchen. If you burn yourself that soothing fresh gel contained in the leaves is right there waiting for you. Head’s up because there are 2 important things you need to know to grow them successfully in your home. Hint, hint: they’re listed under the 1st 2 care tips in the post. Hi thank you for all you information. I have a question when you repot a year old plant do you bury the plant to cover the bottom that has a stem because leaves were cut off? The stem is about 2 to 4 inches long or do I leave the stem above ground as it is now. This plant also has a baby plant coming up. Thanks because this was my mother's plant who passed away a year ago and obviously I don't want to hurt it.

Wow, that is one beautiful aloe plant! Such big stalks! Thanks for all the great instructions, and for covering both indoor and outdoor care. Most people don't even warn about the possibilities of too much sun or too much water! I have been keeping aloe (or attempting) for several years now and I'm ashamed to admit that I'm one of the few people who can kill aloe in a heartbeat! :( I learned the hard way about over-watering. I wish I'd have come across your videos years ago. It would've saved me so many aloe plants. Oh, and your transplanting video was awesome too. It gave me a little more courage about transplanting my aloe, which is in dire need of being transplanted, but I always end up killing them, so I've been afraid to even try it this time. I have my last aloe vera indoors now that it's winter. I didn't know about this mealy bug. I'm glad you mentioned this because I think I've seen this on one of mine, but had no idea what it was. So it's safe to scrape this off and still eat the plant? I eat my aloe vera, so I'm always afraid of eating any stalk that looks odd. Okay, my comment is turning into a novel, so I'll end now by saying thanks for all the super useful information on aloe! I truly enjoyed watching this (I watched it twice, actually) and look forward to your other videos. It's awesome to find someone who gives full instructions and tips on gardening. It's a rarity, so you're a true gem to us novice gardeners. P.S. I just love your energy/attitude... and outfit! You're so pleasant and upbeat in your videos. It brightens my day. :)

Hi! Quick question, my aloe looks perfectly healthy and has grown a lot but I just had one of the leaves on the bottom come off and it was brown at the end. I do tend to water mine once a week as it seems to dry out really quick. the Leaves are quite plump and green theres no brown whatsoever (other than on the bottom of the leaf that just came off) and the soil is completely dry but just slightly worried because one of the under leaves just literally came off in my hand. Ive had one leaf do this a couple months ago as well. Not sure if it's normal or not. I'm assuming I should reduce my watering a tad but it's just weird because it seems to be growing really well with the amount I've been giving it. Any tips would help. Thank you!
