How can I save my potted french lavender? Can I even grow it potted indoors in Chicago? (It's been about 15 F outside). It was gifted to me about a month ago, and it was doing well until about week ago. The tips of the leaves started to brown on one side. Now about half of the plant is browned, and a couple places droop while other parts thrive. The only directions I was given was to keep moist and hot, give good light. I put it on a South facing window sill. How often is it supposed to be watered? How do I save this plant? Would it help to repot it? How big does the pot have to be? What kind of soil does it need?

I have a really old, giant lavender that is extremely woody. It actually looks a couple of plants growing on top of each other almost! Can I divide it and transplant the extra "bushes"?? It still has many beautiful flowers and I don't see anything wrong with it, at least not for my yard. Thank you!

cant you just cut it at ground level and let it regrow from the root?

So I wanted a big spreading plant and I didn't prune. It is about 4-5 years now and getting out of hand. The bottom part is woody. I dead headed it every year but didn't prune like this, just cut off the dead branches when I can see new growth. Is there a way to get it back to a round form like yours? It has spread by layering (some of these I transplanted) and also with seeds.

What time of year do you prune your Lavender?? Do you prune in both Spring and Fall or do you just cut the blooms back in the Fall and then do the actual pruning in the Spring when you can see the new growth.

@misspantherpanther Miss Panther, you can save seeds from your plant. . after the blooms dry shake seeds into a jar . . .carolgayxoxo

In the wild the lavender woody branches will sag into the ground & root, much like propagating by layering, starting another plant a few feet away until you have a massive plant. If you want to save that plant, you can take clippings, or propagate by layering, & start to prune back the other branches year by year, but if the ONLY main stem dies so will the plant so Basically doing what nature would do, nibbling down the branches some & layering the long ones. Silly expert village!
