A Cavalcade of Texas Publisher: Interstate Theatres of Texas, 1938 Summary: An historic visit to Texas in 1938 featuring the industrial life and history of Texas in a film buried for over 50 years. Documentary film. Credits: Produced under Interstate Theatres of Texas' Karl Hoblitzelle's supervision by James A. Fitzpatrick, director, editor and narrator; Produced under auspices of Texas World's Fair Commission, Inc. Old West Musical Score by Nathaniel Finston and Constantine Bakaleinikoff. Technicolor. Originally intended to screen at New York World's Fair, instead 16mm print first screened in Interstate Theaters due to Texas' failure to complete it's building in New York. Shown to millions with capacity audiences at New York World's Fair and San Francisco Golden Gate Exposition during 1940 season, receiving high praise from New York and San Francisco critics. Filming locations: Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Ft. Worth, LaPorte, Galveston, Kilgore, Port Arthur, New Gulf, Lufkin, Rio Grande Valley, El Paso, Big Bend, Austin, Washington, D.C. Texas notables included: John Nance Garner, Jesse H. Jones, James V. Allred, W. Lee O' Daniel, Coke Stevenson, Richard Kleberg, future U.S. President L.B.J., Col. Amusing how Dallas was described in this video as being a "port-of-call" along this hypothetical new Trinity river shipping lane. In theory, that would have been excellent and would have given Dallas a real sense of place, that it otherwise lacks. But that never happened and other economic dynamics took over to make it grow to the level it has. Still without any discernible geographical elements to it. Otherwise this video is a real gem.
