The key to 5 gallon containers is not over planting them and making sure you keep them fed and watered. Container soil with 50% organic matter really helps with moisture. Here are mature vegetable plants of Kale, Peas, Chard, Lettuces and a growing determinate tomato. It will give you a good idea of what can grow in 5 gallon containers. Thank you for this video, I bought 5 gallon pail's and plan on planting peas- I have one patio tomato growing in a 5 gallon pail on my deck for my toddler. I did not know about the lime, so I will definitely pick some of that up to add to them. I also did not have room for kale in my garden, so this is perfect :-) thanks ever so much again.

in this you tube post on what to plant in 5 gal container on the other side of your garden beside the lettuce you have a yellow flowering plant what is it? reason for asking is that I have something that look like it in my garden it came of wild" as I did not plant from seeds or seedling don't know if a bird dropped some flower seeds -

Hi Gary, I enjoy your videos. When do you start your indoor seed starters? Do you start -- say one month before last frost? Do you have a grow light? Do you put 2-3 seeds in each little hole as insurance in case one seed doesnlt germinate? After those get a little big, do you then transfer them to styrofoam cups and then when thosefinally get large enough, do you move them to their final home - the 5 gallon pot? Thank you once again.

Hello Gary. I have not grown Kale before in a pot but after watching your video I am going to give it a shot next year.
